June Lee | Elementary Math Tutor

Hello! I am a first-year student at Barnard College of Columbia University who loves working with kids and is considering a career in primary and secondary education. During high school, I took all advanced math courses and scored in the 99th percentile for the SAT. I recently taught math and English as a TA at an elementary school in Westchester County and previously worked with young children at Hikarino Koen preschool in Tokyo, and the KEA Korean language School in New Jersey. My teaching style is very creative and flexible to keep every student excited to learn and accommodate different learning styles. For more visual learners, I often explain through drawings so they can conceptualize what is actually happening. For more sequential thinkers, I walk through the equation from start to finish with many examples until they feel confident. I also use storytelling or songs as a method to help students stay engaged and remember certain names or steps. Most importantly, I am excited when my students succeed and strive to create a safe space to make lots of good productive mistakes. I believe it is super important that the students feel that the journey of learning is something we are doing together.
