Jared Barlament | Middle School Writing Tutor

Hello! I'm Jared Barlament, I'm a junior at Columbia University studying archaeology and philosophy. My majors may not reflect it much, but writing has been my primary passion for as long as I've been able to hold a pencil. In high school, I wrote, edited, revised, formatted and self-published three novels, and for the last five years I've run a blog on history, mythology, philosophy and other similarly nerdy subjects. Now, while I'm new to paid tutoring (though I have done some tutoring of high school students for their college applications through the QuestBridge program for three years now), I'd love to get the chance to help newer writers hone their skills. I always appreciated honesty and patience in adults when I was a kid, and I hope to connect with my students by being honest and patient with them without exception. I know classroom settings often prioritize constantly moving forward over reviewing old material to make sure students don't have gaps in their knowledge, but those gaps tend to compound students' confusion over time, and I'm here to prevent them by reviewing materials as many times as need be and listening acutely to students on what they themselves think they're missing.
