Hanzhang Swen | Middle School Reading Tutor

Hi! My name is Hanzhang Swen and I'm a junior at Horace Mann School. I'm super excited to tutor reading for middle schoolers. I frequently write for my school's newspaper “The Record” and I have extensive experience working with middle schoolers from my school's debate outreach programs. I've worked with 6th-8th graders from Horace Mann School and also kids from a local public school in the Bronx called Intech Academy so I have a good feel for what kids around that age are like. English is my favorite subject in school and also my strongest subject. I received 4s on the ELA back in elementary school and 9s on the vocab and reading comprehension sections of both the ISEE and ERBS in middle school. Middle school reading is when schools transition from simply teaching your child how to read to what we are reading. This means that there is a heavy emphasis on the contents of the story and really analyzing the text. I can help with analyzing any text or book for symbolism, main ideas, and themes. I’m also great with vocab and sentence structure. I'm extremely organized and I'll make sure as a tutor to always check in with both the parent and child. I am always available over text/email and I’ll make it a priority to get back to you quickly.
