Elle Debari | Middle School Math Tutor

Hi I'm Elle! I'm a current high school senior at Berkeley Carroll, located in Park Slope Brooklyn! I’ve been tutoring middle school math, grades 5-8 for the past 3 years. This past summer, I volunteered at the “GO Project,” I worked with low-income Kindergarteners struggling with math and English. Additionally, I worked as a teacher's assistant at Berkeley Carroll for incoming middle schoolers. As a middle school peer tutor, I’ve been able to teach different grade courses. Using khan academy for review videos, along with math games and fun worksheets. The biggest challenge I’ve seen with middle schoolers is their confidence in the material. Prompting the students by having them explain the concept back to me, not only helps their confidence grow, but it also reinforces their understanding. I enjoy watching my students become confident learners and develop a love for math. I will communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding the student’s progress or need for additional support. I will also contact parents to learn about the student–the student’s challenges, preferred learning style, as well as their interests. This will be helpful in planning according to their unique style of learning. My love of math, patience and understanding nature makes me an ideal tutor for your younger students.
