Bethany Jarrett | Elementary School Writing Tutor

Hello! My name is Bethany and I am a junior at Horace Mann School. I am passionate about writing, both creatively and academically, and I am so excited to share this love with younger students. I attended writing workshops at Writopia Lab for six years, and have been published three times in their magazine, The Parenthetical. I won first place in my middle school's annual creative writing competition for an original poem. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with elementary-age children - I was a volunteer tutor at the Part of the Solution Community Center in the Bronx for 3 years, tutoring 1st-3rd grade students in ELA and facilitating fun and educational games and activities. I also worked at my elementary school's academic Summer Bridge Camp preparing rising 1st-4th graders for the upcoming school year using the Wordly Wise reading and vocabulary curriculum, and I taught two classes at HM’s Summer on the Hill Program as well as working at Kids in the Game summer camp for 8 weeks in Summer 2021 as a counselor for campers age 3-7. I scored above the 90th percentile on the Reading and English sections of the ISEE, ACT, and SAT. I believe in fostering a love of writing through practice and purpose and I would be so excited to work with your child!
