Aya Gilad-Muth | Elementary School Math Tutor

My name is Aya, and I am a junior at the Institute for Collaborative Education. I have taken advanced math classes since 7th grade. I have two previous years of tutoring experience. This experience includes helping kids catch up on homework, understanding new topics when they are introduced in class, preparing for tests, as well as getting a bit ahead of the class. I like to think, though, that I started tutoring in elementary school when I would complete my older brother's math homework for him. I enjoy tutoring simply because I enjoy math, and so not only will I help your child solve the math, I will make sure they understand the theory and reasoning behind why the concepts they are learning work. Elementary school is the time when students develop the ways in which they think about math, in terms of logical reasoning and general problem-solving strategies. I am not the type of tutor to push students straight to the answers; rather, I help guide them along their own path of logic - which in elementary school years helps them form their own logical reasoning processes. As well, elementary school tends to be the time when kids will be forced to feel like they are either “good at math” or “bad at math”. My specialty is explaining topics in multiple ways, so if your kid didn't understand the topic the way their teacher taught it, I will always be able to explain it in a different way that will make sense to them. In the formative years, this is especially important so that your kid won’t be one of the few who give up because they’re simply “not good at math”.
