Hi, my name is Alexandra, and I am a current Freshman at The Spence School. This past summer, as a camp counselor, I cared for children ages one to twelve. I also have experience teaching reading comprehension to younger students through a peer tutoring program. This has helped me learn how to best meet the needs of younger children while keeping them engaged in a learning environment. I am interested in teaching elementary math because I am someone that is very organized and could be a role model for younger students. I am a good math tutor because I am able to understand the material from the student’s point of view, and relate the concepts to skills that the student has previously learned. To plan lessons, I use online tools such as worksheet makers, Khan Academy, and whiteboards (for Zoom lessons) to make lessons more engaging and to help with the understanding of the material. Overall, as a tutor, I like to focus on communication with parents and students to make sure I fully understand their needs.
